Senior Cable Lay Superintendent

UTM Consultants are looking for a Senior Cable Lay Superintendent in the USA from later in 2026 to work 4 weeks on/4 weeks off or 5 weeks on/5 weeks off. Must have B1 OCS visa.

 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all cable-related operations are carried out in the safest and most efficient way.
  • Lead a team of 10 to 15 members, including foremen and operators.
  • Hold shift handover meetings with the onboard team.
  • Liaise with colleagues on the bridge and surveyors to support optimal cable operations.
  • Run and supervise all back-deck operations, including the operability of the Cable Installation System (CIS), ROVs, cranes and other onboard equipment.
  • Ensure works are performed to the highest level of safety.
  • Maintain the integrity of the cable during loading, transportation and installation phases.
  • Complete a daily log of activities performed.
  • Oversee the cable installation process, ensuring precise and secure cable placement while upholding the highest quality and performance standards.
  • Use technical expertise to identify and resolve complex technical challenges that may arise during cable installation, ensuring projects progress smoothly.
  • Recognise that the OIM is the single point of contact, while Cable Lay Superintendents maintain daily contact with client representatives during operations to provide progress updates and answer technical questions.

Technical Profile Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in submarine cable installation, demonstrated through several years in a senior technician or similar role.
  • Safety focus: strong commitment to prioritising safety and adhering to safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Leadership excellence: proven leadership abilities and exceptional communication skills to effectively manage and lead a diverse team.

Non-Technical Profile Requirements

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of and experience with MS Office.
  • Good command of English, both written and spoken.
  • Fit for offshore work.

Methodology / Certification Requirements

  • MSc degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or equivalent through experience.

Certifications Required

  • Work permit and VISA.
  • GWO Manual Handling.
  • GWO Sea Survival.
  • GWO Working at Heights.
  • GWO Fire Awareness.
  • GWO First Aid.
  • HUET.
  • Chester Step.
  • Offshore medical, including NOGEPA.

Language Proficiencies

  • Fluent spoken and written English; proficiency in other languages is a major plus.

The project is due to start on 30th November 2026 and will last approx. 24 weeks
